According to a report prepared by Maj. David Birk, the funds would be used to send patrol officers and detectives to attend specialized training courses in:
- Child abuse and neglect
- Crime scene investigation
- Active shooter instructor school
- Hostage negotiations
- De-escalating the special needs population
- Human trafficking
- Interview and interrogations courses
Officers and detectives attending these courses return to train the entire police division with new techniques.
“This will not only benefit the Middletown Division of Police, but the entire community benefits with updated training with more effective methods and techniques in policing,” the staff report said.
